Cultural Center in the neighborhood of Genova, Palma de Mallorca

Due to the lack of municipal premises in the area, the municipality was forced to rent several spaces throughout the neighbourhood, library, elderly centre and community centre. In order to combine all of these services the municipality oofers a plot under the major square (the only available space in the area).

The scheme envisages three main spaces, one for each programme (library + elderly center + community center) divided by side rooms organised in bands (restrooms + offices + media rooms, etc). In order to avoid the feeling of being buried in the ground the scheme creates two patios, one on each side, to bring light into the building.

The building draws the main plaza into its roof. It also sets back from the neighbouring building, creating a little plaza in between them. Two staircases, a lift and a ramp connect the main plaza (on the roof of the building) with the small plaza (4.5m below) in front of the building.

By digging in the rocks a new communal space is created , bringing a very interesting complex to life and giving the residents a new way to enjoy their beautiful neighbourhood.
